Woolcock Construction’s ability to provide an innovative and cost effective solution was a major factor in being awarded this project. The use of direct labour and the ability to achieve a high quality finish was noteworthy and was displayed in the dry stacked stone fireplace, the timber acoustic lining and burnished concrete floor. Although weather conditions proved to be challenging, the project was delivered on schedule and to the complete satisfaction of the client.

This extremely complex project scored very highly in all assessment criteria. Security was of high importance and required the establishment of a totally separate security gate, solely for personnel involved in the construction. The standard demanded by the client was second to none and as a result, the project is near perfect. It scored particularly highly in the standard of finishes and value for money. It was extremely difficult for the judges to find a defect in the workmanship.

It’s rare that a retail development exceeds in this award because very tight commercial constraints and time frames often compromise standards of finish. Not so in this very refreshing retail concept. The selection of internal and external finishes were diverse and complex allowing little room for misalignment. Clearly the collaborative relationship between the client and Sarah Constructions was excellent with the outcome being exceptional.

The Botanic High School Project was very challenging. It involved the extensive refurbishment of an existing building, with that of a new building. All to be handed over part way through construction. Lendlease overcame all site and building challenges, to construct a complex building that is especially ground breaking for a school. They were able to marry the new and old buildings, to produce what looks like a completely new build.

Schiavello Construction (SA)
The innovation of set out and in-situ transfer beams by Schiavello was brilliant in this project. The Adelaide Festival Centre needed to remain open during the refurbishment and did so regardless of the problems being experienced on the site.
Complex finishes with 3-D tiles and bronze trim to doors and frames are a highlight. A very complex refurb with tight time frames and a passionate project manager all contributed to Schiavello being a worthy winner of this award.
