A: You can check whether a tradesperson or builder is licenced by visiting the Licencing Public Register with Consumer and Business Services at or call 131 882.

Q: I really need some technical advice about building/renovating. Who can I speak with?
A: If you’re after technical advice, speak with a Master Builder. You will find a listing of Master Builders SA members at For members of Master Builders SA we can provide you with high level technical advice however please be aware that we can only provide general advice and you do so at your own risk.


Q: I’m not happy with work that my builder/contractor has done. What can I do?
A: First, have a talk with your builder to discuss your concerns and see if there is anything they can do to help fix the problem. This will often resolve the issue. If that isn’t successful, for issues relating to our members you can either call us on 08 8211 7466 or email to provide us with the details of your concern. We monitor complaints against our members in order to determine the most appropriate action where required. If the builder/contractor is not a Master Builder, you can contact the Office of Consumer and Business Services on 131 882 to let them know your concerns and obtain advice about what action can be taken if required.


Q: I’m really happy with the great work that my Master Builder builder/contractor has done and would like to thank them for their work. How can I let others know that I’ve had a positive result?
A: We’re always looking for ways to promote the achievements of Master Builders so that others can use them with confidence as well. If you’ve had a good experience with a Master Builder – tell us!

You could also send us some pictures of your completed job, or even some “before and after” photos if you’re happy for us to use them to promote your Master Builder.


Q: I’d like some more information about a building contract. Who can I talk to?
A: If your enquiry relates to a building contract with a Master Builder, then you can either speak directly with your builder/contractor, or contact us on 08 8211 7466. If the contract is not with a Master Builder, then either contact your builder / contractor for further information or the Office of Consumer and Business Services on 131 882.
