What is a Quality Management System?

A quality management system (QMS) is a collection of business processes focused on achieving quality policy and quality objectives to meet customer requirements. (Wikipedia).

Why do I need a Quality Management System?

There are many benefits associated with the implementation of a quality management system, including reduction of redundant processes, product quality enhancement, reduce variation and re-work through general efficiency and effectiveness and business improvement. However a common driver our members offer is ‘because our client has requested it’. In our experience we often find our members already have in place various quality assurance processes, it is simply a matter of bringing these systems of work together.

What is ISO9001?

A definition of a quality system from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is 'the management system used to direct and control an organization with regard to quality'.

The Australian and international standard AS/NZS ISO 9001:2016 Quality Management System – Requirements (the QA standard) is a system which once developed and implemented may be audited by a JAS-ANZ accredited certification body  to obtain third party certification.

What is DPTI Quality Assurance System?

As per “DPTI Prequalification Information edition 2012” (www.dpti.sa.gov.au):

Government is the single largest and regular purchasers of services from the building and construction industry. The prequalification process provide a mechanism to continually improve the performance of contractors seeking government work.

“Quality Assurance system requirements are:

•           Certified ISO9001:2016 System for Categories 1 and 2,

•           Certified Quality System to DPTI requirements for Categories 3 and 4.

Note that quality assurance is not required for pre-qualification as a Residential Building Contractor.
